Ixtapa Surfing and Out-of-Town Beaches.

Playa Quieta is a favorite of local mexican families (source)
Each of Ixtapa's outer beaches has its own character, and thus usually attracts a different crowd.

South of Playa el Palmar stands the Westin Las Brisas Hotel commandeering the more protected Playa Vista Hermosa.

Northward along Playa el Palmar, next to the jetty, is Playa Escolleras, a favorite spot for local surfers and, farther along, are Playa Quieta and Playa Linda - another surfer's hangout and the departure pier to Isla Ixtapa.

Surfing Pros will travel further

Ixtapa attracts many surfers. Although the best of them will quickly get bored at Playa Escolleras, the area around Kandahar has a wide variety of surf breaks that can suit all surfers, both long and shortboarders, beginners as well as pros. Pointbreaks, beachbreaks, reefs and rivermouths - mostly lefts - are all available within walking distance. Surfers flock to Kandahar all year round, but the most challenging waves are typically between May and June, with swells up to fifteen feet.
