Playa del Palamar is the main beach of Ixtapa, parallel to the hotel zone.
It is a long curve with spectacular rock formations and an occasional spell of rough surf. Most watersports can take place there, although surfing is better on the more northern Playa Escolleros.
For a sweeping vista of the main bay, and the most romantic sunset in town, take the Teleferico (cableway) to the small hill overlooking the bay, home in particular to the famed Hotel El Faro. One of their most popular dishes is called cactus, more exactly consisting in a cactus variety called Nopal, one of the most common - and normally cheapest - dishes in Mexico.
