Taxco Lodging

Taxco is an overnight visitor’s dream: charming and picturesque, with a respectable selection of pleasant, well-kept hotels. The cheapest hotels in Taxco are located along highway 95 and around the Zócalo. Hotel prices double in high season, especially Easter week.

Hotel Agua Escondida is the only hotel right on the Zócalo, where most of the restaurants and bars are. Rooms are all clean and comfortable, although unevenly decorated with local handicrafts and hacienda-style furniture. The hotel has a big swimming pool on its roof, with a gorgeous view of the Santa Prisca church. Some rooms also have views over the Zócalo and the church, but these tend to be the noisiest, so you may want to see them before making your choice. The penthouses-style upper rooms are particularly popular. More Info
Plaza Borda. Tel. 762 2007-26. $55 double.

The Hotel Los Arcos is another popular choice. This ex-convent has a lovely internal courtyard and big rooms with heavy handmade, polished wooden furniture, and rustic wall decorations.
J. Ruiz de Alarcon 4. Tel. 762 218-36. $30 double.

Even more romantic is the Hotel Santa Prisca. This beautiful old hostelry was built around a fragrant garden of orange trees.
Cena Oscura 1. Tel. 762 200-80. $50 to $70.

Hotel La Misión is a good high-end choice with lovely, plant-heavy patios, located at walking distance from the Zócalo through a steep street. Amenities include a sunny pool, golf privileges and tennis courts. Some rooms have fireplace and panoramic city views.
Cerro de la Mision 32. Tel. 762 200-63. cberger@posadamision.com. $150. Open Window: Hotel Information, Rates, Availibility and Reservation Page

Farther away from downtown is the Loma Linda Hotel, a particularly quiet, clean mid-range hotel with a pool, restaurant and parking outside the room. Some rooms have a balcony with an enjoyable view of the Sierra Madre mountains and canyons. $30 double.
Outside of town on Avenida JFK 52. Frequent combis to downtown. Tel. ++52 (762) 622 0206 or 622 0753. $50.

The more luxurious Hotel Monte Taxco, located on top of the hill of the same name, is the place to go if you need outdoor activities and don't mind paying more. Within a short walk are tennis courts and a 9 hole golf course in poor condition, three restaurants, a gym and a disco bar where for a cover of less than $10 you can dance away Saturday night from 10pm to 3am. Many of its 153 rooms have an exceptional view over the city. On the other hand, you'll have to take a taxi or take the cable-car to go to downtown, and its premises are average. $100-$180. Check their web site for off-season specials. More Info
Lomas de Taxco. Tel. Tel. ++52 (762) 622 1300. reservaciones@montetaxco.com.mx.

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative but in the same location as the Monte Taxco, consider the colonial-style apartments of the Country Club Monte Taxco, next to the golf course.
Tel. Tel. ++52 (762) 622 1300. $60.
