A common activity on the beaches of Golden Acapulco (source)

Just about everything that can be done on, under, or above the water is done in Golden Acapulco. On this side of the bay, para-sailing, banana-tubes and Jet Skis are particularly popular.
On the bay, parasailing and wind surfing are all popular activities. The smaller beaches have boats of all kinds: sailboats, fishing boats, motorboats, pedal boats and canoes. They also usually hire out snorkeling gear, inner tubes and water bicycles.
Cruises are available day and night; they range from multilevel boats with blaring salsa music and open bars to yachts offering quiet sunset cruises around the bay. Boats will take you for whale watching or deep-sea fishing. Chances of hooking a 100-pound game fish of some sort are excellent. Sailfish, bonito, tuna, pompano, dolphin, barracuda, yellowtail, red snapper, Spanish mackerel, rooster fish and amber jack are just a few of the varieties that are found in this great fishing port. Some pleasant freshwater fishing (mainly bass and catfish) is available in Pie de la Cuesta's Coyuca Lagoon.
Because of Acapulco's calm waters and top-notch instructors, scuba diving is one of the favorite activities in town. The favorite diving spots include Piedra del Elefante and Piedra de la Hierbabuena reefs, and the underwater shrine, once home of a bronze virgin, off the shores of Roqueta Island where the currents are gentle. Be careful if diving around the Roqueta Island: many tourist boats visit the area. You will also find a good assortment of paddle and surf boards, and catamarans, as well as windsurfing equipment.
One of the newest activities in Acapulco is a high-speed boat ride down the Papagayo River aboard the Shotover Jet. This New Zealand import takes passengers aboard a jet boat for a 40 miles per hour ride down the Rio Papagayo. This river offers a dramatic change in scenery, deep river canyon bordered with white oak, almond and mahogany woods. Nature abounds with white tail deer, armadillos, exotic birds, beautiful orchids and cacti flowers. Set aside about four hours for the trip, including the 45 minutes it takes to get to the site.
